Question

My name is Michael and I have been charged with grand larceny. This is my first offense and it is a non violent offense. Before that, my record was clean. The place where I stole have told the detective that they do not want me to go to prison. Also, they have not contacted the DA yet. I go back to court next Monday. Can I still go to prison?

Grand larceny is a felony charge and would be made by the DA and not the company you stole from. The question is did the police charge you with this crime and arrest you? If you are going back to court, they obviously did. Yes, you could go to prison and you should get a criminal defense attorney right away to defend you in this situation. It can be a mitigating factor that the company would not like you to have jail time and certainly discuss this with your attorney. Do not go to court unrepresented.
