I am no thief but i slipped up and made a mistake due to circumstances and pressure that im under. My mother is in critical condition at the hospital and i have taken on all of her responsibilities which include finding housing for my siblings, and also providing for them as far as food and clothes go. Im not doin very good financially. While at the hospital i stumble upon an apple ipad unattended. Normally it wouldnt cross my mind for a second but i stole the ipad. Hours later police were involved. They relayed a message to me saying that if i return the ipad back they would drop the charges, i returned the ipad. But noww i cant visit my mother. Is this right? Shouldnt i still be able see my mother?

I am assuming that you were not arrested and charged with theft. Were you arrested and then they said the charges would be dropped if you returned the iPad? Are the police stopping you from going to visit your mother or is it the hospital security that is doing so. If it is the police, you need to get an attorney right away as this might mean that they did NOT drop the charges. In the case of hospital security, you need to see if this is some sort of policy that they have regarding people who have been caught stealing. You need to speak with hospital administration to see if they have a no trespass order against you and then contact an attorney to get it release.
