Home owners insurance; is it right for your them to have you pay for reroofing your home and then they reimburse. This is about the stupidest bull it I've heard in a while. That defeats the purpose of paying premiums for 20+years.if they had the money to do so why get ins co involved? Is there any advice you could give them? Oh I'm asking on behalf of my parent, who are in their seventies and on limited income.

The insurer compensates the cost to repair or replace the damaged property. Contact multiple contractors and obtain more than one estimate. Don't give a contractor Power of Attorney over your affairs, don't allow them to negotiate or settle your insurance claim. Pay contractors by credit card or check, rather than in cash, to have a record of all payments issued. Pay a contractor only when all work has been finished.
