Can a real estate agent register a domain name identical to a housing development's name? I serve as a member on the board of directors for my condo association. We have been working to establish a web presence for our members, but it appears that a local real estate agent has registered a domain name identical to our homeowner association's name. The housing development has been around since 1972 and it appears the domain name was first registered in 2004. The domain name is currently being directed to a page that says "this site is not currently available." The real estate agent that registered this domain name currently holds no listings for any property in our community. No attempts have been made to contact this real estate agent yet. Is there a certain protocol I should follow to obtain this domain name that is identical to our homeowner association's name? Ideally, we would like to obtain this domain name in a way that is fair to both parties, but want to make sure that we begin handling this matter in the proper way in case this real estate agent attempts to use this as an opportunity to ask an unrealistic price for the domain name. Any advice is much appreciated!
