I am considering getting my wife's windows tinted (all except windshield) for the same reason I got mine done: to protect my skin from harmful UV, to protect the interior of the car, to reduce glare and bright light while driving, and to keep the interior cool. We live in a very hot area. The law in California states no tint can be applied to front windshield, driver, or front passenger windows. My wife is concerned that if she were involved in an accident that she would be automatically held liable or at fault because of the tint. Also, is the insurance company not required to honor claims if the windows are tinted?

I would not suggest tinting the front windows. You will give the police a reason to pull you or your wife over at any time. You insurance company will still have to honor claims if the windows are tinted but as a retired police officer and now a criminal defense attorney, I strongly recommend against tinting the front windows.
