Firm/Attorney Description

In the summer of 1973, I put right rear marker lights in Chrysler New Yorkers and Imperials at the Jefferson Assembly plant in Detroit. The next four summers, I worked mostly in the heat treat and upset departments at the Lear Siegler automotive division on Kelly and Tireman in Detroit. I am an honorably withdrawn member of the UAW. During the school year, I bussed tables and washed pots and pans. I worked with other blue collar laborers, the honest, hard working, lunch pail type for which Detroit and Michigan have been known for decades. I drove a Valiant that was five different colors due to various training incidents as many of us learned to drive in it. One of the doors was from a Dodge Dart, a junkyard replacement due to one of the incidents. I am a lifelong resident of Michigan, I love the state and its people. We have the best public universities (hey, my best man and two of my brothers are Spartans) the best fresh water, the best fall color, hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, pro sports including auto racing, a water-winter wonderland, in short, the best place to live. What have the politicians done to chase jobs out of our state? The Wall Street investment bankers who brought us this crisis are still driving their foreign made Ferraris and other luxury cars, guys who never broke a sweat in their lives, when they should be looking at the sun come up in chunks through their jail I have always bought American, and I always will. If you plugged away at your job, bought that house for your family, and are now stuck with a home worth less than you owe on it, what have the politicians done for you? You may have had a house that was paid for, or close to it. Someone talked you into re-financing, the terms at closing turned out not to be what you were told, but you were pressured into signing anyway. Maybe not even given copies of the closing papers. Now, you cannot get re-financed like you were told, because your home’s value went down instead of up. Your ARM mortgage rate adjusted, or is about to, so that the payment is higher than you can afford. Well, in Washington DC, they shelled out hundreds of billions of your tax dollars to bail out – who? the poor guy with a family trying to make his payments? Nooo, they bailed out the bankers who already profited from the mortgage crisis they brought to our land. So now, the bankers have one hand into your pocket for the mortgage payment, while with the other hand, they get your tax money to cover their losses. Is this fair? Do you need someone to level the playing field, someone experienced battling the big mortgage companies, suing creditors in Federal court, someone to be the slingshot to your David against the Goliath bankers and mortgage companies held up by our own Federal government? I have the same choice as any lawyer, represent the little guys in the constant battle for justice, or take the regular hours and steady paycheck that comes with representing the big guys or the government. Me, I like to tackle big guys. They aren’t ready for guy who made truck axle housings on the graveyard shift who knows their games and hustles. Kurt A.
